Passing the roundabout at Tang De-chang Memorial Park, you will surely be drawn to this unique white building. It is the Combined Office Building (Godo Chosha), which means a joint office complex, built during the Japanese colonial period. The building's tall tower, completed in 1930, was known as 'Huojianlou' (Fire Lookout Tower). It was the tallest building in Tainan city at the time, and its presence was exceptionally important in a city where almost all structures were wooden, enabling constant monitoring for fires.
