Visitor Essentials

Designed and constructed jointly by architect Shih Chao-Yung and Shigeru Ban Architects, a firm led by Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate Shigeru Ban. The main building was originally the Tainan Police Department, completed in 1931, and is designated as a historic monument of Tainan City. It was designed by Tainan Prefecture engineer Umesawa Sutajiro and is an eclectic Art Déco architectural style building. Within its spaces, which blend old and new, the museum exhibits works by local Tainan artists as well as important artists from other regions. With aesthetic education as its development goal, it offers diverse art activities.
