Chianan Management Office, Agricultural and Irrigation Agency (formerly the Chianan Great Canal Association Office)

During the Japanese rule of Taiwan, Taiwan was treated as an economic colony. However, at that time, the Chianan Plain had scarce water resources, and most of its farmland was barren, causing farmers in the Chianan region to often suffer from droughts, floods, and heavy rain disasters. Therefore, the Japanese established the "Chianan Great Canal Public Irrigation Association Office" to be responsible for constructing the Chianan Great Canal to solve the irrigation water problems of the Chianan Plain. The office was initially located in Chiayi Street, Chiayi County, and did not relocate to Tainan Prefecture until 1909. In 1940, due to continuous expansion of its operations, it was rebuilt at its current location.
