Built in 1905 and commonly known as 'Dacai Market', the West Market boasts over a century of history. It was once the largest food market in Southern Taiwan, holding countless living memories for Tainan residents. Designated as a municipal historic site in 2003, after years of restoration and renovation, it now not only preserves the beauty of its classic Mansard roof but also integrates modern market functions. The market features stalls offering cultural and creative goods, department store items, textiles, light refreshments, and cooked food. A sunken plaza connects streets and alleys, fostering an atmosphere where cultural preservation coexists with tourist experiences. On weekends, the plaza hosts markets and band performances, allowing visitors to appreciate its century-old charm while also enjoying the diverse and vibrant urban appeal. It has become a significant highlight of the Guohua and You'ai commercial districts.
