Tainan Central and Western District Library

If you walk from the National Museum of Taiwan Literature towards Zhongzheng Road, you will surely see a green pedestrian bridge and building connected to the museum. This place was originally the Tainan Prefectural Assembly, a three-story building completed in 1935. Its facade is currently obscured due to an addition on the Zhongzheng Road side, but the original appearance of the former Tainan Prefectural Assembly can still be seen from the rear. After World War II, in the 1950s, it became the seat of the Tainan City Council. Later, the council moved to Anping. After 1998, it was left vacant for a period. It was later used by the Photography Culture Center and became the Tainan City Council Historical Museum, housing many precious historical documents and photographs related to Tainan's political history. In 2018, to address the issue of insufficient space at the Central and Western District Library, the city government decided to relocate the library to the former Tainan Prefectural Assembly, a designated city historic site. After four years of renovation, it opened in 2022.
