Wei Residence in Haitoushe, Anping

The Haitoushe Wei Residence is the ancestral home of the descendants of Wei Dayou, the Qing Dynasty Naval Vice Commander-in-Chief. It was originally located to the front-left of the Wenlong Temple plaza in Haitoushe, facing west. For some reason, it was rebuilt at its current site during the Taishō era of the Japanese colonial period, and its orientation was changed to face south. The Anping Haitoushe Wei Residence features a 'single-wing' layout, a common type of residence found in the alleys of Anping. It is essentially a brick structure, with its walls plastered with oyster shell lime, and a hard gable roof with distinctive 'horse-back' gables. The building's entrance originally had a wall gate, but it has since been damaged. The main hall is traditionally arranged, with a plaque above the door inscribed with 'Jingxing Qingyun' (Auspicious Stars and Propitious Clouds). On the left side, there is a small round archway leading to the outside, while the east side primarily consists of bedrooms. It is a very typical residential style in Anping, and its 'single-wing' design has also become a design element adapted and referenced in modern new residences. It is an unmissable old residence to explore when visiting the alleys of Anping.
