Ruins of Fort Zeelandia (Inner Wall of Anping Fort)

In 1622, the Dutch began constructing Fort Orange, which was completed in 1640 and renamed Fort Zeelandia. The fort was divided into an inner and an outer fort. The inner fort was square-shaped and built with three levels. The lowest level was underground and served as a warehouse, while there were two levels above ground. The upper level had bastions at its four corners, and between these corners, there were three gates: North, East, and South. The lintel of the North Gate was inscribed with 'T'CASTEEL ZEELDIA GEBOUWED ANNO 1634' (Fort Zeelandia Built in 1634). The lower level also featured bastions at its four corners. In the center of each side of the platform base, there was a semicircular bastion, and each semicircular bastion had a well in its center.
