Old Liberal Arts Building and Dacheng Hall of National Cheng Kung University (Former Barracks of the Imperial Japanese Army's 2nd Infantry Regiment)

Walking on the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) campus brings a sense of serenity at any time. The antique and elegant buildings of the Guangfu Campus always help people relax. The former barracks of the Imperial Japanese Army's 2nd Infantry Regiment is located directly opposite the familiar Banyan Garden. It is currently used by departments such as NCKU's Department of History (in the Liberal Arts Building) and Department of Industrial Design (in Dacheng Hall). This is one of the very few military buildings from the Japanese colonial period that have been preserved; the 2nd Regiment, stationed in Tainan at the time, resided here. The barracks were designed by the construction and repair section of the Japanese Army's Quartermaster Department, featuring Romanesque porticoes and columns common at the time, giving it a stately and magnificent style. It now serves as classrooms for university students, a popular spot for many locals and tourists to stroll on holidays, and a favorite location for photographers and influencers for cosplay photoshoots.
