Xunfang Battery of Tainan Prefectural City (Xunfang Jingzhen)

The Xunfang Battery is deeply hidden within a residential area, a mysterious presence that even long-time Tainan residents might not know about. It is Tainan's only remaining inland battery, located southeast of Dadongmen Gate (Great East Gate). Its name comes from its position, which corresponds to "Xun" (southeast) in the Bagua (Eight Trigrams). The battery was built in 1836 using coral limestone. Above the battery, there is an inscription "Xunfang Jingzhen" dating back to the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty.
