According to legend, the founding history of Taiwan's First Temple of Heaven dates back to the 15th year of Yongli during the Koxinga (Zheng family) era, when Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga) built an altar to worship Heaven and Earth after arriving in Taiwan. Following this, worship was conducted in rotation by local residences until the temple was officially built in the 4th year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty (1854). The temple primarily enshrines the Jade Emperor, who is the highest deity in Taoist belief. The 'One-Character Plaque' in front of the main hall is one of the four famous plaques renowned in Fucheng (Tainan City) and is definitely worth a visit.
