Visitor Essentials
The Vestiges of Tainan Prefecture City Wall, South Gate Section, are located on Shulin Street in Tainan City. Their outer edge faces Shulin Street, while the rear borders Tainan Girls' Senior High School, becoming part of the school's wall. These remains have been restored using traditional methods, largely returning them to their original appearance. Additionally, a section exposing the internal structure has been specially preserved for visitors, making it exceptionally valuable. The current South Gate Section of the city wall runs east-west along the Tainan Girls' Senior High School wall. It is approximately eighty meters long and over four meters high, representing one of the better-preserved sections. Its exterior easily reveals that it was constructed using a traditional method with sanhe-tu (a traditional mixture of lime, sand, and glutinous rice). Within Tainan Prefecture City, where city walls are now almost non-existent, the preservation of such a complete section is truly rare and remarkable.
