Anping Small Fort

Built in 1840 (the 20th year of Emperor Daoguang's reign) during the Opium War, this fort was one of the coastal defense installations constructed by the Qing army in Taiwan to resist British forces. The fort consists of two main parts: the principal structure and a protective stone embankment. The stone embankment is long and narrow, extending north-south. The main body of the fort is situated next to a pond park and is constructed of granite. The northern section of the stone embankment is built from coral stone and traditional Chinese mortar (Sanhe soil), featuring firing ports and sluice gates to block water. It is a city-designated historic site. Unlike the Western-style modern fort of Eternal Golden Castle, this fort is currently the best-preserved late example of an old Chinese-style fort.
