Built in 1836, Duiyue Gate is commonly known as the Coral Stone City Gate. Located on Xinyi Street, it is currently the only city gate still in use within the ancient city. Xinyi Street was formerly known as Coral Stone Street. It's now hard to imagine that in the past, after passing through the gate, there were only waterways where boats carrying coral stone as ballast constantly came and went. However, great changes have occurred over time; with the evolution of history and shifts in topography, the importance of this city gate today is incomparable to what it once was. Of the 14 city gates Tainan originally had, this is the only one still in use by people.
