National Historic Site Tainan District Court (Judicial Museum)

November 2016 marked the grand reopening of the former Tainan District Court after its restoration, a significant event for Tainan City that year. Built in 1912, the former Tainan District Court features magnificent columns and a circular Baroque-style roof on its exterior. Upon entering, one can see a magnificent, beautifully lit dome, reminiscent of the lobby of the Chimei Museum. The large columns bordering the dome are exquisitely carved. The floor retains its original Japanese colonial-era Victorian-style geometric patterned colorful mosaic tiles. Stepping inside the courthouse is like entering a real-life textbook of modern Baroque architecture, with awe-inspiring details at every turn. All of these marvels are from the hand of Mr. Moriyama Matsunosuke, who, during his 16 years in Taiwan, designed countless classic buildings that have stood the test of time.
