Beimen Qianlaiye General Store

Everyone must remember the popular idol drama, The Prince Who Turns into a Frog. The original filming location for the idol drama was at the Qianlaiye General Store, which became a landmark that many fans flocked to. Built in 1952 as the Taiwan Salt Company's Salt Workers' Welfare Center, it was a traditional sloping-tile bungalow that served as a place for salt workers to purchase daily necessities and as a recreation center. It was left idle until the Beimen Salt Fields ceased operations in 2001. A revitalization project in 2003 gave this historic old building, representative of the local industry, a complete makeover. Its walls were adorned with local abandoned salt pan tiles, seashells, and oyster shells, covering the entire exterior. The surrounding courtyard was also decorated with numerous seashells, buoys, and other ornaments. This gave the Qianlaiye General Store an additional, very oceanic nickname: 'Shell House'. After the renovation, it was entrusted to a vendor for management, allowing the Qianlaiye General Store to regain its former prosperity. Inside, they sell a variety of traditional snacks and local-style creative souvenir products, making it a must-visit shopping and browsing spot for many tourists coming to Beimen.
