Wushan Mountain, located in Nanhua, serves as the boundary between Tainan and Kaohsiung. Consequently, the Wushan Hiking Trail System has always been a favorite for citizens of Tainan and residents of nearby areas like Neimen, Kaohsiung, for holiday hiking and trekking. The Wushan Hiking Trail spans approximately 12 kilometers from north to south, with varying gradients, some steep and some gradual. However, the signage and trail markings are very well-maintained and clear. Completing the entire trail takes approximately 9-10 hours. Among its sections, the most popular among visitors is undoubtedly the trail segment behind Jingangshan Houde Zizhu Temple. Many people arrive early in the morning. Besides the panoramic view of the Chianan Plain from the temple's front, the view becomes even more expansive once you reach the Wushan trail's ridge. Beyond the plain, you can also gaze upon Kaohsiung's sprawling mountain ranges. The northern side of the Zizhu Temple section is relatively easier; although longer, it has a gentle slope, with pavilions and other spots along the way for resting. The southern trail is shorter but steeper, requiring a greater physical challenge. However, both paths lead to the high ridge of Wushan, where you can enjoy the pleasure of looking out from an elevated position. After descending, you can also enjoy the self-service vegetarian meal prepared by the temple. Not only can you hike, but you can also savor a delicious meal full of Zen. Finally, find a favorite coffee shop to spend a leisurely afternoon before heading down the mountain.
