The Formosan Macaque Area is a must-visit when you come to Nanhua Wushan for coffee, a walk, or a hike. Hundreds of Formosan macaques happily live within this area. The macaques have found a sanctuary that belongs to them, allowing them to live here in peace. This is largely thanks to the elderly Mr. Lin Bing-hsiu, known as 'Grandpa Macaque.' Grandpa Macaque is often seen carrying buckets of fruit and food, visiting and feeding them in the mountainous area, always watching over these precious creatures of Taiwan's mountains with a loving gaze. Thanks to this protection, not only have the monkey populations thrived here, but the numbers of many other animals, such as masked palm civets, squirrels, and wild rabbits, have also increased.
