Yang Kui Memorial Hall

Mr. Yang Kui was the first person in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period whose literary works were included in textbooks. He is a highly respected literary writer in Xinhua and can be considered one of Xinhua's prides. At the Yang Kui Memorial Hall, located next to the Xinhua Old Street Office, visitors must take a close look at the desk and chair used by Mr. Yang Kui upon entering. There is a particularly sunken spot on the wooden desk. It is said that Mr. Yang Kui used to lean his elbow on the desk while thinking and writing, constantly rubbing it day after day, causing the most frequently touched area to become sunken over time. This makes one admire Mr. Yang Kui's dedication to literary creation. The two-story Yang Kui Memorial Hall not only preserves some of his personal belongings and biographical facts from his lifetime but also features many of Mr. Yang Kui's literary works on the second floor for visitors to appreciate. It is recommended to make a reservation before visiting, as the museum can arrange for a docent to explain Yang Kui's life and works, which will make the visit more in-depth. When you visit, remember to also stop by the adjacent Ou Wei Cinema Museum and the Xinhua Old Street Office.
