Xinhua Old Street

During the Japanese colonial era, the Xinhua District of Tainan Prefecture encompassed Xinhua Town, Shanhua Town, Xinshi Village, Anding Village, Shanshang Village, Yujing Village, Nanxi Village, Nanhua Village, and Zuozhen Village. These are all familiar place names, signifying that Xinhua was an important political and economic center, serving as the gateway to Tainan's mountainous region, since the Japanese colonial period. One can imagine the bustling commerce and prosperity of that era, with merchants gathering and interactions between Japanese, Han Chinese, and Pingpu indigenous communities.
