Xiaying Xuantian Shangdi Temple and Cultural Center

The Xiaying Xuantian Shangdi Temple is situated in the busiest area of Xiaying, serving as both a landmark and a spiritual hub for the Xiaying District. The temple was originally built in 1661 AD. Legend has it that its establishment was initiated by Liu Guoxuan, a general under Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong), during his land reclamation efforts in Xiaying. After several renovations, it is now a magnificent three-story temple complex. The 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month marks Xuantian Shangdi's birthday annually, and the period from the 1st to the 5th of that lunar month is the most bustling time in Xiaying, almost like its annual carnival. Performance troupes from all over Taiwan flock to the area, and Xiaying residents follow the deity palanquins in a procession to pray for blessings.
