The Octagonal Building

The Octagonal Building is a wooden mansion built in 1847. At that time, Yanshui's Yuejin Port was still a bustling scene with frequent merchant ship traffic and traders bustling through the streets. The Ye family, who grew wealthy from the sugar trade, specifically hired master craftsmen from Tangshan (China) to come to Taiwan to build it. All construction materials, including Fuzhou fir and bricks, were transported across the sea from China. It was considered a magnificent mansion and estate of its time.
