Beitouyang Pingpu Cultural Park

The park is located in the Jiali area of Tainan (formerly known as the Siaolun community). In ancient Pingpu language, "Beitou" means "shamaness," while "Yang" refers to a grazing land with water and grass suitable for habitation. This place has always been associated with the legend of the "Flying Aboriginal." The legend tells of a Pingpu tribesman who could run faster than a horse, even racing against and defeating a horse in front of Emperor Qianlong. This greatly pleased Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, who granted him and his son the rare privilege of an audience with the emperor three times. This individual is "Cheng Tian-yu," whose grave is now known as the "Flying Aboriginal's Tomb." The tombstone still bears an inscription stating "Father and son met the Emperor three times." It is also currently Taiwan's oldest recorded Pingpu (plains indigenous) grave, dating back over 240 years.
