Madou Daitian Temple

Madou Daitian Temple, also known as 'Wuwang Temple' (Temple of the Five Kings), is dedicated to the Five Plenipotentiary Lords (Wufu Qiansui). These deities act as emissaries of Heaven, protecting the people from plagues and scrutinizing good and evil deeds, making the temple a site of flourishing incense offerings. Legend has it that the Five Plenipotentiary Lords (Wuwang) of Nankunshen Daitian Temple were originally worshipped in Madou. However, due to the disruption of the temple's geomancy (fengshui) at its original location, the Five Lords relocated to Nankunshen. Later, when Madou was afflicted by plagues, devotees journeyed to Nankunshen to invite the Five Lords back to Madou for a procession. This practice continued year after year until 1956, when the Five Lords gave their divine instructions, leading to the construction of the temple at its current site.
