Forestry Bureau Taichung Sub-office Guesthouse

The "Forestry Bureau Taichung Sub-office Guesthouse" was built between 1927 and 1930. During the Baxianshan Forest Concession period, it served as an important Japanese-style building providing accommodation for Japanese staff and visiting officials. The building features a long rectangular floor plan: the east side is single-story, divided into reception rooms and living quarters; the west side has a two-story design, with reception rooms on the first floor and a zashiki (traditional tatami room) on the second floor. In the past, it offered distant views of the log pond. It incorporates special structures such as a ventilated cantilevered second-floor design, ornamental eaves brackets, 'hukuro' (pocket doors), and 'amado' (rain shutters), showcasing the valuable characteristics of Japanese colonial-era wooden architecture.
