Jishan Tower

Built in Meiji 31 (1898 AD) during the Japanese colonial period, Lai family ancestor Chang-rong Gong moved from Touzhang to what is now Erfenpu and constructed a two-section courtyard house. The original gatehouse of the three-sided courtyard complex was made of adobe bricks and was not very prominent. In Taisho 13 (1924 AD) during the Japanese colonial period, Chong-ren Gong, acting on the advice of a geomancer from Tangshan (China), built a new gatehouse to the south of the old one. It was believed that this would allow the family's fortunes to flourish. The new gatehouse was named Jishan Tower, intended to encourage future generations to perform good deeds and help others.
