Taiping Bat Cave, Hundred Bats Suspension Bridge, and Hiking Trail (Currently Closed)

It is said that the Bat Cave was an artificial irrigation canal dug by the Lin family of Taiping during the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1862 AD) to irrigate their farmland. It diverted water from the Toubiankeng River to the Tudigongkan farmland for irrigation. However, after the 87 flood, the massive water scoured away a small rocky hill below the Bat Cave, causing the river to straighten its course and cut through the area. The scouring of the riverbed by the floodwaters increased the drop, causing the water level to rapidly decrease, and the inlet subsequently lost its function as it could no longer draw water.
