Visitor Essentials

Located in Dongshi District, Kinmen Bridge originally featured only trickling streams separating its two banks, compelling residents to wade across for interaction. To ensure the safety of the elderly, children, and women, the bridge was constructed in Showa 15 (1940). However, with the outbreak of the Pacific War, all cement was requisitioned. Consequently, local people were forced to use glutinous rice, lime, and brown sugar as binding agents for its construction. This unique composition gave the bridge remarkable elasticity, allowing it to withstand the 921 earthquake without any damage. Its special construction techniques and design hold significant preservation value, particularly for the invaluable safety it provided to the local community.
