Visitor Essentials

The Gaomei Lighthouse, built in 1967 (Republic of China Year 56), was originally constructed because there was no prominent navigational aid for ships between Baishajiao Lighthouse in Taoyuan and Mudouyu Lighthouse in Penghu. Therefore, the Gaomei Lighthouse was built on the south bank of the Dajia River estuary, the closest land to the midpoint between these two lighthouses. The Gaomei Lighthouse is an octagonal reinforced concrete structure. It is the only lighthouse with alternating red and white horizontal stripes, which sets it apart from most lighthouses that are typically white or have alternating white and black stripes.
