Many mangroves are found in the sandbar areas at river mouths along Taiwan's western coast, serving functions such as regulating salinity, flood control, and maintaining ecological diversity. The Wenliao River Estuary Mangrove Forest, located in Daan District, Taichung, is also a very important mangrove area. The only mangrove plant species here is Kandelia obovata, which was artificially planted and covers an area of approximately 2 hectares. Surrounding it are reed marshes. On the northern beach, there are artificial windbreaks of Casuarina equisetifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus, as well as companion plants like Ipomoea pes-caprae, Spinifex littoreus, and Miscanthus floridulus.
