On July 1, 2002, the Former Residence of General Sun Li-jen was registered as a historic building. The Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau began restoration efforts in 2009. His family members and former subordinates actively prepared for the establishment of the "General Sun Li-jen Memorial Museum," collecting and organizing General Sun's manuscripts, photographs, relics, and other items to showcase his life story and some historical materials related to modern Chinese history, providing resources for academic research, as well as for people to commemorate and admire him. The "General Sun Li-jen Memorial Museum" officially opened on November 21, 2010. To visit General Sun Li-jen's Former Residence, advance reservations are required, as it is only open on the hour during holidays every other week. Upon entering the residence, with its standard Japanese-style garden home architecture, it feels as if time has shifted. While walking through the residence, it is recommended to slow down and listen to the stories of General Sun and the residence, experiencing every story within the Japanese-style home. Sit on the floor, gaze at the garden outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, and enjoy a different kind of time in the city.
