Taichung City Library Shalu Shenbo Branch

In 1986, the "Shalu Township Library" was established on the fourth floor of the Shalu Township Office building, with a collection of 12,922 books at the time. To provide a more convenient reading space, the then Township Mayor Chen Ming-di hoped to combine private sector efforts to construct a larger library, in response to the government policy at the time of "a library in every township." Collaborating with the local "Vedan Enterprise" in Shalu, the Township Office provided public land measuring 4,797 square meters, Vedan Enterprise invested in the construction funds, and the Taiwan Provincial Department of Education and Taichung County Government subsidized the equipment. Construction began in 1988 by Vedan Enterprise, completed by the end of 1989, and handed over to the Township Office for operation. It officially opened and began operations on February 20, 1990, with book circulation and borrowing officially starting on July 14 of the same year. To honor the enterprise's sincere dedication to giving back to the community, the library was named "Shalu Township Shenbo Library" after Mr. Yang Shen-bo, the founder of Vedan Enterprise. On December 25, 2010, due to the merger of Taichung County and City, it was reclassified under the Taichung City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau and its name was changed to "Taichung City Shalu District Shenbo Library." On March 1, 2016, its organizational structure was merged and it was reclassified as "Taichung City Library Shalu Shenbo Branch."
