Mr. Lai Gaoshan studied under the Japanese artist Yamana Kou. At the Taichung School of Arts and Crafts, he learned carving techniques that integrated Taiwanese imagery and the lacquer art known as 'Horai-nuri'. In 2000, Mr. Lai and his son converted their former lacquer workshop and residence into the 'Taiwan Lacquerware Culture Museum'. Currently, the museum primarily features Mr. Lai Gaoshan's life and works, as well as the development of Taiwanese lacquer art culture, aiming to promote Taichung's unique lacquer culture as a distinguishing characteristic of Taiwan.
