Visitor Essentials
The Dakeng Scenic Area is located in Beitun District, Taichung City. It was developed and established by the Taichung City Government in 1976, with an elevation ranging from 112 meters to 859 meters. The name "Dakeng" (literally "big pit" or "big valley") originated because early residents primarily gathered in a wide valley, hence the name. Most of the earliest settlers here were Hakka people; even before that, it was an area inhabited by Pingpu indigenous tribes. There are over 30 species of deciduous trees here. During the transition between dry and wet seasons, the ground is often covered with beautiful golden fallen leaves, a sight comparable to the autumn leaves of Aowanda. It boasts the highest degree of natural preservation in all of Taichung City, making it an excellent place for people to relax, recreate, and enjoy forest bathing on holidays.
