Zhangliao Ancestral Temple

The Zhangliao Ancestral Temple, commonly known as Zhangliao Ancestral Hall, Liao Ancestral House, or Tianyu Ancestral Shrine, is also referred to as Chenghu Hall due to its designation 'Chenghu'. It is situated on what was formerly Xidadun Street (now part of the Xitun area). The temple was built by the Zhangliao clan, whose ancestral home was Lantiantou in Guanpi Village, Erdu, Zhao'an County, Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian. Construction of the Xitun Zhangliao Ancestral Temple began in Meiji 42 (1909, during Japanese rule) and was completed in Meiji 44 (1911). Subsequently, the left and right wing-houses and surrounding structures were progressively added, with the entire project reaching completion in Taisho 5 (1916).
