Taichung Line Earthquake Restoration Memorial Monument

If you travel by train on the Mountain Line and pass through Tai'an Station, look out the window and you'll spot a 'bomb-shaped' structure standing by the railway. That is the 'Taichung Line Earthquake Restoration Memorial Monument'. This monument was erected to commemorate the powerful earthquake that struck at dawn on April 21, Showa 10 (1935) during the Japanese colonial period, originating in the middle reaches of the Daan River. This earthquake brought unprecedented catastrophe to what was then the government-operated Taichung Coastal Line railway.
