Taichung City Wenchang Temple

The Wenchang Temple was jointly funded and constructed by two literary societies, "Wenwei Society" and "Wenbing Society," formed by Zeng Yuyin, a tribute scholar from the fifth year of the Daoguang Emperor's reign (Qing Dynasty), and his friends. Covering a total area of 1,900 pings (approximately 6,270 square meters), it is an ancient palace-style temple built with adobe bricks, dedicated to Wenchang Dijun (the God of Culture and Literature). The temple's building materials are predominantly granite, crafted into slabs or stone drums. The plaque inscribed with "Tianxia Wenming" (Civilization Under Heaven), jointly erected by the Wenwei and Wenbing societies in the 10th year of the Tongzhi Emperor's reign (1871), and the two vase-shaped side gates leading to the main hall are both worth admiring. Most uniquely, many cute animal sculptures are placed in front of the Wenchang Temple's entrance, surrounding the Wuqu Pond, adding a lively atmosphere to the ancient temple.
