Visitor Essentials
The Techi Reservoir, also known as Dajian Reservoir, was built in 1969 and was a major project by Taipower for developing hydroelectric power on the Dajia River. Its beautiful, thin hyperbolic arch dam stands 180 meters high, making it one of the highest dams in Asia and also one of the top ten dams in the world. The water impounded by the dam forms a vast, egg-shaped lake covering 592 square kilometers. The water's color transitions from light green near the shores to ink green, deep green, deep blue, and blue-black. It offers different visual experiences whether viewed from afar or up close. However, it is currently not open to the public.
