Taichung Prefectural Hall

The Taichung Prefectural Hall was constructed during the Japanese colonial period as a government building. After its completion, it successively served as the seat of government for Taichung Prefecture during the Japanese colonial era and later for Taichung City. It is currently designated as a city-level historic monument for preservation by Taichung City. The building was initially used as the Taichung Prefectural Hall during the Japanese colonial period (where "州廳" is equivalent to "prefectural government building"), and thus it has retained this name. The ancillary buildings of the Taichung Prefectural Hall complex have been utilized as government administrative offices since the Japanese colonial period and continue to serve as the offices for the Taichung City Government today. The Prefectural Hall is located near Taichung Railway Station, offering convenient transportation. Its vicinity features commercial districts, dining areas, and traditional old streets, all rich in historical and cultural resources. The Prefectural Hall and its nearby buildings are designated as historical architecture, making this area arguably the most concentrated district for historical monuments and relics. Consequently, it attracts many tourists to visit.
