It is the largest station in the central region and is situated at the center of Taiwan's Western Main Line railway. The new station building is located in Xinzhuang Village, East District. Numerous highway bus and national highway bus operators are nearby, forming a fast and convenient transportation network. It officially opened on May 15, 1905. On April 1, 1908, the entire Western Main Line railway in Taiwan was completed and opened, and a grand ceremony for its full operation was held in Taichung Park on October 24 of the same year. In 1995, the Ministry of Interior designated Taichung Station as a Class 2 historical monument in the Taiwan-Fujian region (reclassified as a national monument after amendments to the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act), preserving this railway station of great historical and architectural significance.
