Nanzihgou was originally a tributary of the Dahan River, spanning 3.3 kilometers and serving as the boundary between the Banqiao and Fuzhou districts. In the 1980s, the construction of the Fuzhou Embankment cut off its water supply from the Dahan River. Consequently, Nanzihgou's main water source shifted to the Daan Canal branch. During a time when sewage systems were not yet widespread, a large volume of domestic wastewater flowed into the Daan Canal branch, causing Nanzihgou to become notoriously dirty and foul-smelling. In recent years, thanks to the remediation efforts by the New Taipei City Government's Water Resources Department and over a decade of optimization, Nanzihgou has regained its vitality, transforming into a new paradise for flora and fauna.
