Gongliao Old Street

Gongliao District is the easternmost administrative district of New Taipei City, and also the easternmost point of Taiwan Island. Gongliao Old Street is located on the south bank of Shuangxi River, facing Gongliao Station across the river. Gongliao was formerly known as 'Gangziliao'. 'Gangzi' is a Basay tribal word meaning 'trap', and 'Gangziliao' refers to a thatched hut built near a trap. The archway at the entrance of Gongliao Old Street features a special wild boar design, echoing this historical past.
