The clear water quality and excellent environment made Gongliao abalones fresh, sweet, and delicious. However, in the 1990s, the industry suffered a major setback due to bacterial infections. In recent years, the second generation of aquaculture farmers has returned to Gongliao, implementing a semi-open farming environment. By utilizing natural tides to ensure continuous water exchange in tidal pools connected to the sea, they are restoring the glory of the 'Abalone Kingdom'.
