Houtong Visitor Center

The Houtong Visitor Center is located near the Jinzi Monument Historic Trail, a northern section of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trails. It was renovated and completed in June 2022. The design emphasizes sustainability and integration with the surrounding environment. The partially open canopy and open corridors allow natural light and wind to flow freely through the central courtyard. The roof is covered with a red-toned membrane system, drawing inspiration from the red brick old houses around the settlement and their harmony with the natural green environment. The low-slung roof serves to define the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces and guides rainwater to a rain garden, reflecting the local natural environment and emphasizing ecological circulation. This design creates a landmark effect, a 'touch of red amidst a sea of green' beneath the mountain jungle.
