Diyi Tang, also known as Di'yi Tang and commonly referred to as Yuanshuai Temple (Marshal Temple), was founded in 1873. It was established by the Lin Family of Banqiao after the Quanzhou-Zhangzhou clan conflicts during the Xianfeng reign, to commemorate and offer sacrifices to martial arts masters and brave men who died in battle. The main deity worshipped is Marshal Xu, whose real name was Xu Cai. He was a martial arts master employed by the Lin Benyuan family. During the Quanzhou-Zhangzhou clan conflict that occurred in the 9th year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing dynasty (1859), Xu Cai and 12 brave men were martyred. The Lin Family of Banqiao later funded the construction of this temple to appease their spirits.
