Towards the end of World War II, Japan deployed five divisions and seven brigades on the main island of Taiwan to defend against US attacks. The most significant of these in the northern region was the 66th Division, stationed in Taipei, commanded by Nakajima Kisaburo. Its unit code name was 'Gan,' which is what the residents of Taishan District refer to as the 'Gan Unit.'
