Century-Old Stone Terraced Fields of Shimen Songshan Community

Located near Jianshanhu in Shimen District, New Taipei City, the Songshan Terraced Fields are the only century-old stone terraced fields in Taiwan built with volcanic rocks from Yangmingshan. Over three hundred years ago, early settlers used a triangular interlocking method to construct the stone retaining walls of the field ridges. Stone by stone, they are layered and interwoven to create beautiful geometric patterns. Coupled with the nearby rural paths, the area offers a unique aesthetic. Every April and May is iris season, while mid to late June is is when cosmos flowers are in full bloom. During these seasons, the sea of flowers and the terraced field scenery complement each other, creating a breathtaking view!
