Caoling Historic Trail

The Caoling Historic Trail is one segment of the Tamsui-Yilan Ancient Trail, originally pioneered by early settlers. Currently, it is best known for its mountain path stretching 8.5 kilometers from Yuanwang Keng in Gongliao District, New Taipei City, to Dali in Toucheng Township, Yilan County. The trail passes through Caoling, located at the border of New Taipei City and Yilan County. Along the way, it passes two important stone tablets, which have contributed to the widespread fame of the 'Caoling Historic Trail'. The trail's construction was based on southern road-building techniques. It underwent widening by the Japanese and received attention from various units after the Retrocession of Taiwan. Every autumn, the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration promotes the Silvergrass Festival, making the trail a beloved hiking route for the public.
