Taiwan's Western Trunk Line railway has a long history, with preparations for its construction beginning during the Qing Dynasty. It gradually took shape through the Japanese colonial period and after World War II, significantly increasing transportation efficiency. By the late 20th century, projects involving dual-tracking, electrification, and undergrounding completed the railway route from Keelung to Kaohsiung. Today, it integrates with MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and High-Speed Rail, allowing people to conveniently travel between the north and south of Taiwan.
