Wulai Forestry Life Museum

In the early 1940s and 1950s, outsiders who came to the Wulai area to make a living, for the convenience of transporting handcarts and logging tools, mostly settled near the handcart tracks, primarily around the Wulai Handcart Station and the timber collection yard in Guishan. Initially, they simply built simple wooden shacks to live in. Over time, they renovated these into brick-and-tile houses and concrete bungalows. What was originally just a temporary living space for handcart workers also transformed into a settlement where a large number of families gathered. Because this settlement was formed by the congregation of handcart workers, local residents mostly referred to this place as 'Che-Liao-Ping' or 'Che-Zai-Liao,' thus forming a unique community life.
