Shuinandong Thirteen-Layer Remains

The old Taigin (Taiwan Metal Mining Corporation) refinery, located near Shuinandong and the Bay of Two Colors (Yinyang Sea), is also known as the Thirteen-Layer Remains. Formerly the largest ore dressing and refining plant in the Shuinandong, Jinguashi, and Jiufen area, this refinery, once used for extracting gold, silver, and copper ores, looks from a distance like a beautiful, abandoned palace. The disused smoke pipe, which snakes along the mountainside for a total of 2 kilometers, intermittently appears and disappears beneath the mountain ridges, adding a touch of mystery. If you wish to witness the unique desolate beauty of the Thirteen-Layer Remains, the most captivating views are obtained by looking up from the Shuinandong Parking Lot and by viewing it from the side at the Changren Community Observation Deck.
